TRAVELS WITH MY FAMILY by Marie-Louise Gay and David HomelJFIC GAY
Book Review by Isabelle Avigliano
Are you tired of the same old, boring family vacations? Then hop onboard and travel along with Charlie, Max, and Miro the family cat. Charlie and Max are brothers with adventurous parents. First, the family goes to Maine and gets caught up in hurricane Bob, during which Max takes flight in mid-air. Then, it's on to Okefenokee Swamp in Florida where all four have a close call with an alligator. Next, it's on to huge "sneaker waves" in California and sand storms in Arizona where "the sky had gone purplish-black and the wind was howling like a horror movie." If that's not enough, how about a stop-off at Mexico with fireworks and New Year's celebrations in the street.
Continue your exciting travels with Charlie and his family in On the Road Again. Mom and Dad decide it would be great to spend a year in France! They go to a French village and meet crazy characters. The family gets around in a "sardine-can-car" and lives in a huge house with a well inside. Max tries some pretty strange food at the market. Then, when school closes for a snowstorm, the boys meet some new friends and teach them how to have a snowball fight. Life gets exciting, when Charlie becomes a hero during the running of the bulls through the village streets, then later saves a neighbor in a town flood. Although Charles and Max's parents put a different spin on education, the brothers discover that their parents have given them the best souvenirs ever, a treasure trove of stories to tell their classmates when they return home.
